"For Frankfurt, I'll die as long as I live!" – starring Michael Quast at the Volksbühne – 2-for-1 tickets
In "For Frankfort I'll die as long as I live! —with Maximilian Leopold Langenschwarz from Rödelheim to New York," they follow in the footsteps of a storytelling artist, dialect poet, "water doctor," and revolutionary of 1848.
Langenschwarz, born in 1808 in Rödelheim to Jewish parents, traveled throughout Europe as a bookstore clerk, improviser (today we would call him a stand-up comedian), and “water doctor” throughout Europe until, following the Revolution of ’48, he evaded arrest by fleeing to the United States. He wrote comedies and tragedies, corresponded with Goethe, penned revolutionary satirical verses, an “Arithmetic of Language” (dedicated to humanity!), and sketches in the Frankfurt dialect. In 1867, all traces of him were lost in New York.
