After the HfMDK Big Band performed a contemporary program by their professor, Peter Fulda, in February, they are now turning their attention to tradition and presenting a rousing, swinging program from the Al Porcino bandbook. The legendary lead trumpeter Al Porcino not only shone in the greatest big bands in jazz history (including the Thad Jones & Mel Lewis Orchestra, Stan Kenton, Count Basie …), but he also led his own orchestra for many years, establishing a bandbook that has become paradigmatic for swinging big-band jazz.

Oliver Leicht, alto saxophonist and clarinetist with the hr Big Band, had the opportunity to work with Al Porcino for many years and carries on the legacy of his swing energy by rehearsing the renowned bandbook with the HfMDK Big Band.
