Romanfabrik e.V.

Live, unconventional, and direct—powerful yet fragile: The free-jazz duo Jo Jena & Burtis Knight promises an intense concert full of sonic experiments, musical contrasts, and surprising twists. Both musicians are deeply rooted in Frankfurt’s improvisation scene. A concert that balances structure and freedom—intense, unpredictable, and full of energy.

In the first set, Jo Jena presents his cycle “Trial 721,” featuring four composed septets for electric guitar and four improvised solo pieces on acoustic guitar. In the second set, Jena and drummer Burtis Knight (alias Bertram Ritter) will perform their duo album dedicated to Peter Brötzmann.
