Duke Ellington’s “Sacred Concerts” blend big-band jazz with choral singing and spirituality. According to the jazz legend, these three works were the most important he ever created. Together with the Bavarian Radio Choir, they create an extraordinary concert experience that bridges the gap between the Cotton Club and the church.

Inspired by his personal approach to the Christian faith, Ellington composed three “Concerts of Sacred Music” between 1965 and 1973 that uniquely blend jazz and sacred music. Mezzo-soprano Merit Ostermann and tenor Andrew Lepri Meyer provide solo highlights. A musical bridge between swing, spirituality, and choral sound.

Featuring: Andrew Lepri Meyer (tenor), Merit Ostermann (mezzo-soprano), Gaines Hall (tap dancer), Bavarian Radio Choir, Peter Dijkstra (conductor)

Duration: 120 min, including intermission
