SOIL: New Ground for NeoSoul feat. Kera Mono – at St. Boniface Church – 2-for-1 tickets
New Ground for Neo-Soul: Pianist Jona Heckmann has launched SOIL, a concert series for anyone who wants more than just the same old formula. Once a month, the superbly resonant concert hall of the Bonifatius Church transforms into a space where genre boundaries dissolve and a shared rhythm emerges. Each installment features new guest artists and weaves their influences together with the energy of Frankfurt’s burgeoning music scene. Jona Heckmann is a jazz pianist, arranger, and composer, and, among other things, the founder of the Urban Art Orchestra—an ensemble consisting of a rhythm section, a horn section, and a string quartet.
Kera Mono writes songs that function like little mirrors: they reveal thoughts, doubts, vulnerability—and, time and again, love in all its facets. With South Indian roots and having grown up in Germany, she also explores the search for identity and self in her music. Her sound is indie in the best sense of the word—boundlessly open. Elements of soul, reggae, and pop weave together into a warm, organic blend. In her lyrics, self-reflection meets lightheartedness, melancholy meets humor. She sings about the pain of breakups without kitsch, about self-discovery without pathos, and about what remains when you stop apologizing. She creates an almost living-room-like atmosphere—intimate, honest, and connecting.
