Frankfurter Museums-Gesellschaft e.V.

Daniel Ottensamer is one of the world’s most distinguished clarinet soloists and will be a guest at the Museum Concerts twice during the 2026/27 concert season: at the end of the season as a soloist in a symphony concert and, six months earlier, as a chamber musician. Together with cellist Stephan Koncz and pianist Christoph Traxler, he rehearsed nearly the entire repertoire for clarinet trio during the concert-free period of the COVID-19 pandemic—that is, all the works composed for the exquisite combination of clarinet, cello, and piano. The trio also recorded all of this and released it on seven CDs under the title “The Clarinet Anthology.”

The cornerstones of the repertoire are Beethoven’s early and lively B-flat major trio, also known as the “Gassenhauer Trio” because of an opera aria—popular at the time—that is varied in the final movement; the most important contemporary contribution, Magnus Lindberg’s Clarinet Trio; and finally, the crowning achievement of the genre, Johannes Brahms’s melancholic late work.
