For one weekend, the Darmstadtium will once again become the gathering place for all travel, outdoor, and photography enthusiasts: The long-standing Weitsicht Festival (Travel | Reporting | Adventure) invites you to thrilling live reports, first-class photography events, and a major outdoor expo! On Saturday, the program features four talks:

At age 28, Dutchwoman Tamar Valkenier left behind her career as a Michelin-starred chef and police psychologist and has since traveled to more than 60 countries. The full-time adventurer offers insights into her transition to life as a modern nomad—entertaining, inspiring, and highly infectious.

Ten years ago, forester Klaus Echle first showcased the wilderness right on our doorstep at Weitsicht. Now the internationally acclaimed nature photographer is back with new stories, once again demonstrating his talent for bringing the secret life of our local wilderness to light.

Spiegel bestselling author Lotta Lubkoll and her donkey Jonny are back: The Balkans, featuring hikes in Bosnia, Montenegro, and a focus on “Albania,” is the travel trio’s latest adventure, as Lotta’s partner Stefan is now joining them on their donkey hikes for the first time. A talk full of joie de vivre, funny anecdotes, love for animals, and unexpected twists.

The return to Syria is the most personal journey of Middle East expert Lutz Jäkel. A search for traces in a torn but not lost country. On his travels through the new Syria, the award-winning photographer collects stories of loss and new beginnings. He speaks with people who have stayed or returned, documenting their stories, their doubts, their quiet optimism, as well as their great joy about the new Syria.
