A modern poetry slam in a class of its own: At the “Dead vs. Alive Poetry Slam,” living and deceased wordsmiths compete against one another. Old or new? Classics or young rebels? Depth or a barrage of laughter?
In two rounds, all participants present two different texts and performances each. The performers even slip into two different roles of deceased figures. Whether it’s Goethe, Schiller, Marie Antoinette, or even the Grim Reaper—anything is possible. An extraordinary stage format that combines literary history and contemporary spoken-word art in a way that’s as entertaining as it is surprising.

Aileen Schneider will host the evening. In addition to her main career in theater, the trained opera director is active as an author, host, and poetry slammer. As the Hesse champion, two-time runner-up in Rhineland-Palatinate, and a frequent participant in the German-language state championships, she is one of the defining voices of the spoken-word scene. With charm, wit, and great stage presence, she hosts this poetic encounter between generations.
The event features outstanding artists from the current poetry slam scene as well as award-winning actors and actresses. Who will ultimately win over the audience? It’s up to the audience alone to decide whether the living or the dead will leave the stage victorious.

Anyone who still hasn’t had enough of this extraordinary evening can keep the party going right away: Starting at 9 p.m., the Neue Stadthalle Langen invites you to a big Halloween party with a spooky, atmospheric vibe. For visitors to the Dead vs. Alive Poetry Slam, admission to the party is already included in the ticket price.
