Following the huge success of his live talk “Thumbs Up—Hitchhiking to Japan,” photographer Bastian Maria presents his new adventure: a fascinating hitchhiking journey through South Korea and Japan! “Adventure Japan & Korea” promises a wild mix of sumo wrestlers in Okinawa, Korean senior women diving for seafood without breathing apparatus, and the legendary cherry blossoms in the metropolis of Kyoto. In his adventurous live travel talk, Bastian Maria shares firsthand the ups and downs of a hitchhiking trip as a family of three. From spontaneous couch surfing in strangers’ living rooms to unexpected encounters on remote country roads and language barriers that stumped even the best translation apps.
In a very personal and empathetic way, Bastian Maria uses his photos to showcase the people he met along the way. These are tales of adventures that transcend boundaries, of hardships that lead to insights, and of the unwavering determination to follow the call of the unknown. A story that moves the heart.
