And the great Jessye Norman attested that she has “a unique voice, supported by intelligence and consummate musicality, which makes every note she sings shine.” It is telling that Cécile McLorin Salvant receives praise from equally authoritative voices in both the jazz and classical worlds. The jazz artist-in-residence for the 2026/27 season does not like to be pigeonholed into a single genre. Her artistic foundation lies as much in classical singing as it does in jazz. And in her projects, she loves to shift between styles and eras. Enveloped in the rich sound of a full orchestra, her joint concert with the Rhineland-Palatinate State Philharmonic gives her the opportunity to demonstrate her incredible stylistic versatility, even in a program featuring jazz standards.
