Knights, Warriors, and Tower Legends: The Hayner Castle Festival has been held for nearly four decades in the extraordinary setting of Dreieichenhain’s historic old town, and this year it celebrates the 950th anniversary of the tower castle. The tower castle, which is part of the later-built imperial castle, is the only remaining standing tower castle in Germany and is considered the oldest castle in the state preserved in such elaborate condition.

On the stages and throughout the medieval market, minstrels, impressive jugglers, and spectacular fire artists provide entertainment. Everywhere, the cheerful bustle of the “Herrenborn” medieval market—first mentioned 488 years ago—unfolds, where nearly 100 artisans, merchants, peddlers, and innkeepers offer their wares, guaranteeing a lively and authentic market experience. Mercenaries and knights in historical costumes populate the grounds; there is a wide variety of food and drink, and on Sunday, an archery tournament. The bands Schelmish, Tamburo Bant Skaldar, Saorsa, Duo Donnersack, and Chrismegan will provide music for dancing. There’s also a children’s program, archery tournaments, and lectures. Historical fencing and sword fights provide excitement before the finest fire acrobatics herald the end of the spectacle each evening. Welcome!
