Volksbühne im Großen Hirschgraben

Since 2005, the "Barock am Main" festival has been presenting newly interpreted plays by the "Hessian Molière" Wolfgang Deichsel open air. This year, Michael Quast and the Barock am Main ensemble will once again be performing "The School of Women", based on Molière, a cheerful and moving summer play in Hessian dialect on Frankfurt's West Coast and as a guest performance in front of the castle in Heusenstamm. The contrast between dialect and strict verse is an explosive mixture that makes this comedy even more enjoyable.

"Der Deiwel, isch verplatz!" The rich bourgeois Arnold has the obsessive idea of creating an ideal wife for himself. To this end, he leaves the girl Agnes in the care of a simple-minded pair of servants, untouched by education and all worldly influences. Horace, the son of one of Arnold's business friends, arrives in the town and falls in love with a girl who is closely guarded by an old eccentric. The girl is Agnes. Horazius confides in Arnold as his fatherly friend, and Arnold, who cannot reveal himself to Horazius, has to go through all the hells of jealousy as a result of the young man's scalding reports on his progress with Agnes. His view of the world begins to falter: "Why does my mind, which makes me rich, fail me in this venture?" Arnold desperately fights for his absurd lifelong dream, but Agnes, who has been deliberately kept stupid, proves to be surprisingly shrewd.

The event takes place outdoors in almost any weather, the seats are numbered. Catering is available.
In Griesheim, all seats (except the front row) are covered. There are plenty of parking spaces directly at the festival site and about 5 minutes' walk upstream towards the barrage.
