Jura Soyfer: The End of the World - with Michael Quast at the Volksbühne, Frankfurt - 2for1-Tickets
How does our society behave when everything goes down the drain? Soyfer's 1936 play "Der Weltuntergang oder Die Welt steht auf kein' Fall mehr lang" ("The End of the World or The World Will Stand No Longer") puts this to the test and is believed to have been written today. It shows humanity before the apocalypse, the destruction of the world by a comet - the violent suppression of revolting masses and the delusion in which people wait for the end of the world are depicted. In the end, the comet does not have the heart to destroy the earth, which gives the play a positive ending, but at the same time emphasizes the inconsequential incorrigibility and stupidity of humanity. The then 24-year-old author pulls out all the stops: revue, absurdist theater, cabaret, slapstick, chanson, dialect and folk theater. Der Untergang is a farce and a nightmare, full of despair, but above all full of wit and anarchic humor, with a big surprise at the end.

The actors are Pirkko Cremer, Uli Kinbach, Sam Michelson, Michael Quast, Randi Rettel. Director + stage manager Michael Quast
