Volksbühne im Großen Hirschgraben

The summer theater festival "Barock am Main" has long since established itself as a brand with its own audience and remains true to its artistic claim of making world literature accessible through dialect. "Die lusdischen Weiber von Griesheim" is a comedy in Frankfurt dialect by Rainer Dachselt based on William Shakespeare, wonderfully staged by director Sarah Groß.

Knight Hannes von Wampach (Michael Quast) is fat, no longer the youngest and also broke. But he can still have any woman. Or so he thinks. So he makes a pass at the married and above all rich Mrs. Horn from Griesheim. But he ends up with the wrong woman! He is dumped in the river with his dirty laundry, chased out of the house in women's clothes and stalked in the woods at midnight. Along the way, Mrs. Horn and her daughter Ännchen bring the morbidly jealous Mr. Horn to his senses and provide Ännchen with a dashing bridegroom from a circle of rather stupid suitors. "It's from Shakespeare and is set in Windsor!" True. But in the blink of an eye, the Thames becomes the Main, London becomes Frankfurt, Sir John Falstaff becomes Knight Hannes and at the end, "the funny women of Griesheim" laugh.
