Die Dramatische Bühne

This summer, the Dramatische Bühne is once again presenting plays from over 30 years of the open-air festival. The vision is to revive the zany, audacious theatrical dream that has been envisioned since Shakespeare’s time: Stories full of both silliness and profundity, rich in costumes, sets, and (cheesy) theatrical magic—embodying both the splendor and the squalor of comedy and traveling theater—lovably old-fashioned, clichéd, and wonderful all at once.

The immortal story of love and death, frenzy and betrayal, full of wit and melancholy, with singing, sword fights, and truly without a moral. The audience itself determines the course of the drama, deciding on life and death, on bliss and damnation. The audience holds the power to shape fate; through a vote, they can decide whether the lovers shall belong to each other forever or not, whether Mercutio or Tybalt dies, and whether it shall be a comedy or a tragedy. Thus, the drama takes a new, ever-changing course every evening.

The open-air venue is located in the northern part of the park, near the Orthodox church, right next to the memorial obelisk of the Rothschild Palace. Access is via Sebastian-Rinz-Straße coming from Miquelallee or via August-Siebert-Straße from the direction of downtown. Performances take place in almost any weather. Friendly dogs are welcome. The bar offers a selection of snacks and drinks—cash only.
