Die Dramatische Bühne

This summer, the Dramatische Bühne is once again presenting plays from over 30 years of the open-air festival. The vision is to revive the zany, audacious theatrical dream that has been envisioned since Shakespeare’s time: Stories full of both silliness and profundity, rich in costumes, sets, and (cheesy) theatrical magic—embodying both the splendor and the squalor of comedy and vaudeville—endearingly old-fashioned, clichéd, and wonderful all at once.

The con artist and pickpocket Felix Krull lies, deceives, and smiles his way through life. He tricks his way through military conscription, grants absolution for seduction as a fake priest, conducts his atonal works as a master of new music, sells his abstract brushstrokes as a painter for 3,000 pounds per daub, and peddles worthless securities while swearing meaningless oaths.

The open-air venue is located in the northern part of the park, near the Orthodox church, right next to the Rothschild Palace memorial obelisk. Access is via Sebastian-Rinz-Straße coming from Miquelallee or via August-Siebert-Straße from the direction of downtown. Performances take place in almost any weather. Friendly dogs are welcome. The bar offers a selection of snacks and drinks—cash only.
