Drums United: Blazing Drums of the World! – Percussion, 39th Hanau Kultoursommer – 2-for-1 Tickets
Enjoy a balmy summer evening with a well-chilled drink. Experience music, literature, theater, and more live. These are the elements that have made the traditional “Hanauer Kultoursommer” a success story. This year, the event is kicking off once again with an attractive and varied program:
With Drums United, six percussionists from four continents take their audience on a global journey through the world of groove. There’s a wide variety of rare percussion instruments to marvel at: congas, bongos, talking drums, djembes, shakers, cajons, drum sets, quirky sounds, and drum machines playing samples—this is just a modest sampling of the impressive percussion lineup. Dance and vocal performances are also integrated into the show: time and again, the musicians whirl across the stage dancing with their drums or deliver rousing scat vocal performances. The members of Drums United are all in fine vocal form and lead their fans in rousing call-and-response chants. The heart and soul of the group is drummer Lucas van Merwijk, one of the leading drummers on the European jazz, Latin, and percussion scene. “Jazzprofile” describes him as “… one of the great drummers of our time.”
In 2026, Drums United will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a special anniversary tour. In this show, founding members will join world-renowned guest musicians, each bringing their own cultural roots to the performance. Together, they present an energetic program featuring African, Latin American, Asian, and Western rhythms—a powerful fusion of traditional and modern percussion styles. The anniversary tour is more than just a concert: it is a unique musical celebration of diversity.
The performance will take place regardless of the weather; it will be canceled only in the event of a storm or severe weather warning; please bring rain capes instead of umbrellas.
