The Eppstein Castle Festival has been held since 1913, making it one of the oldest open-air theater venues in the Rhine-Main region. This season’s program includes, among other things, a comedy show featuring Roberto Capitoni:

“60 Is the New 40”—because the best years come after the good ones, and neither the dinosaurs nor the inhabitants of Pompeii could claim that. Are the good years really all about sex, drugs, and rock ’n’ roll? Or more like outdoor pools, ice cream, and french fries at the drive-through? When Roberto Capitoni was young, 60 was already old—really old. Today, people think: Tom Cruise, Campino, Jim Carrey, and Roberto Capitoni—are they all over 60 already? Is it because of the new titanium hip, Viagra, or the great care their wives provide? Countless daily offers—all of which end up in the spam folder—ranging from guaranteed weight loss to relief from prostatitis to varicose vein treatments, don’t help Roberto in this case either.

So what does one do now? Skin creams, or maybe Botox right away? He notices that invitations to milestone birthdays are dwindling just as quickly as the number of funerals is increasing. Besides, he’s about to qualify for discounted train fares, which is quite an advantage for a half-Swabian. His daily glance at the *Apotheken Umschau* or the preliminary pension estimate has him swinging back and forth between fits of laughter and despair. A bungee jump would never appear on Roberto’s bucket list—in German, a “Löffelliste”—because he’d be afraid of kicking the bucket even during free fall. But why does it mostly consist of activities that tend to shorten one’s life anyway? And as if all that weren’t enough, there’s his Uncle Luigi, who doesn’t exactly always have his back. Quite the opposite.
