For centuries, Hayn Castle and the open-air stage have been known and loved as cultural venues. For six weeks, a diverse program of open-air events—including theater, opera, cabaret, concerts, variety shows, and readings—takes place there against an extraordinary backdrop.

When Romeo and Juliet meet, they are two ordinary teenagers to whom something very special happens: at first sight, they fall madly (!) in love with each other! But they belong to two feuding families whose bloody feud engulfs Verona in hatred and violence. Every joke is a provocation, every encounter—war! Neither the prince’s threat of draconian punishments for perpetrators of violence nor the priest’s attempts at appeasement—the voices of reason and peace—fall on deaf ears with the two gangs. A reconciliation between the Capulets and Montagues—impossible! Their feelings for one another come as a shock to the two lovers when they realize the chasm of ancestral enmity that yawns between them, yet their hearts and bodies are inexorably drawn to one another—a secret marriage seals their love. But will it also put an end to the history of the old family feud? The union of Romeo and Juliet is explosive, and it will claim victims—ultimately, the two of them!

Choreographed fights authentically capture the atmosphere charged with aggression. Sound artist Daniel Mandolini (beatboxer “Mando”) accentuates the linguistic power of Shakespeare’s drama of this fatal love with dynamism and sound. A theatrical evening that strikes right at the heart, especially for young audiences.
