With the 4th Symphony, chief conductor Alain Altinoglu continues his Brahms series with the hr-Sinfonieorchester, in which he shows the composer from his transparent, tonally fresh side. The Fourth now: a work like a Rubik's cube, every moment brings new perspectives, everything is constantly changing. This is a clever symphony, and one in which every detail counts. How different Bartók's violin concerto comes across to its listeners, especially the finale: intoxicating, wildly dance-like, with bucolic furor, yet so perfectly attuned to the possibilities of the instrument - it is not without reason that it is one of the most performed and most popular violin concertos of the 20th century.
