Anne-Marie Mille, an ageing actress, reviews her life, recounting her dreary and lonely youth as an outsider in the provinces, her childhood admiration of the acting world and her good fortune at being hired as an actress at a suburban theater in Paris. Here she belonged, here was her family, here she was happy. She was also happy with her friend and colleague, whom she often envied because she always got the bigger roles, received famous lovers and even made it into films. Secretly, the lives of others creep into her own and she feels like Gigi.
Meanwhile, her life with her order-loving husband has been sober, but a little self-deception sweetens the memory. Their son, meanwhile, mothers her and gets on her nerves, but Anne-Marie has found a way to reassess her life with humor and a smile. Yasmina Reza's wistful but also humorous monologue paints a graceful portrait of an ageing woman. A look back at a life between stage and reality, illusion and disillusion, wishful thinking and reality. Under the direction of Sarah C. Baumann, Dirk Wegmann plays the role of Anne-Marie, written expressly for a man by French playwright Yasmina Reza, with humor and whimsy.
