Chamber Music | Bartók-Kontraste - hr-Sinfonieorchester at hr-Sendesaal - 2for1-Tickets
Two clarinet works by Bartók, filled with the richness of Hungarian and Romanian folk music, meet the exuberant early piano quartet by Brahms, a friend of Hungary. Construction, contrast and surprising jazz sounds meet youthful vigor, Romantic creative will and the spirit of the "Hungarian Dances". Bartók's "Contrasts" was the first work with which the Hungarian exile introduced himself to the US public in 1940. It was commissioned by the legendary Benny Goodman, and it was his jazz experiences that inspired Bartók to write the work. When Brahms once sent the score of his piano quartet with the "Rondo alla Zingarese" to his Hungarian friend Joseph Joachim, the latter admitted to the Hanseatic composer without envy that he had beaten him on his own terrain.

Laurent Weibel (violin), Tomaz Mocilnik (clarinet), Dashiel Nesbitt (viola), Ulrich Horn (cello), Günther Albers (piano).
