Oscar Wilde's "Bunbury" is a trivial tragedy for serious people in the Victorian age. Everything is in its proper place - a decent man is a decent man and a decent woman is a decent woman!
Queen Victoria is a weighty ruler and the morality of her heavy petticoats creates a stuffy atmosphere that is suffocating. And yet Oscar Wilde is the pampered darling of the age. KING Oscar, regent of pointed provocations against everything established, setting himself as the standard at the top of the established, married family man, the artist of the upscale salons, the perfect form! But he is also the promiscuous gay man on greedy forays into the hustler milieu, the stray in the dingy offside who returns home with stains on his velvet pants... Double existences are explosive!

Write comedy, play comedy. Leave nothing to the serious. Playing the social clown who always creates the latest craze and everyone screams along. Wilde never disguised himself more revealingly than in this last play. The premiere was on February 14, 1895. On May 25, he was convicted of homosexuality and sodomy. The sentence: two years in prison with hard labor. Banned from speaking. Ban on all writings. Cancellation of all plays. The transcripts of the trial records are mixed with Wilde's BUNBURY.

Theater review on June 1 at 7:30 pm in the Haus am Dom with the ensemble, the director, literary scholar Dr. Lisa Strassberger and theologian Dr. Stefan Scholz. Admission is free.
