The double bill BYWAYS by the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company consists of "Eins vor, zwei zurück" by Ioannis Mandafounis and "Seen unseen" by Rosalind Crisp.

With "Eins vor, zwei zurück", Ioannis Mandafounis creates a new work for a small cast that delves into dance history - danced by dancers from the DFDC and Jón Vallejo, first soloist of the Semperoper Ballett. The movement language of classical ballet is based on clear principles. Everything seems to serve the purpose of overcoming gravity. The bodies appear light, their mass suspended in pirouettes or leaps. So everything is directed upwards, movements downwards almost only occur in order to gain momentum upwards. What happens when these principles are reversed? Ballet movements are deconstructed, turned upside down, interrupted and transformed. Movement sequences from the classical repertoire are juxtaposed with new versions that are completely transformed. A ludicrous game that takes the historical model seriously despite all the humor

Rosalind Crisp is considered one of Australia's most important and at the same time most rigorous dance artists. With "Seen unseen", she creates a new work with the DFDC ensemble and pianist Frédéric Blondy. Dance begins long before it becomes visible. In Crisp's practice of live composition, the subtle shifts in the dancers' attention are crucial to the creation of movement. She invites both dancers and audience to linger, if only for a brief moment, where movement is created. To be fully visible and transparent on stage means to be fully open to everything that is invisible - the subtle shifts of weight, every breath, every sensation of gravity - the future begins here, in the small.
