Once a month, Paul Janoschka invites guests from his wide musical circle to a special evening. Sometimes local, sometimes international, sometimes acoustic, sometimes electronic, but always with a changing line-up, new and fresh and in tune with the times. Creating new musical connections, bringing together fresh and established voices - the focus is on the idea of an open, lively jazz community - all in the name of ambitious jazz in Frankfurt. Hillary Step - Only this one step separates you from the summit, the highest elevation on earth. Your oxygen is running low and your legs are going numb. You have hardly any strength left and yet you keep going and fight your way up. Up here, bliss-soaked moments await you that make you forget everything else.

Smuk takes you from "Hillary Step" to "Garden House" to "Wood" to "Harry Potter". Each composition tells its own story. The colorful music develops through the interplay of singable melodies and impressionistic harmonies. It also incorporates improvisational parts inspired by modern jazz. It is carried by a rhythmic network that is complex and at the same time makes hips sway - or at least heads bob.

Virgin Jazz Face: Jesske's compositions sound mature, improvisations blend into colorful harmonies and combine with beautiful melodies. And the bandleader himself? He plays sensitively, colors and pushes with feeling. Jesske isn't a hooligan here, but a team player in a convincing team. (Christoph Giese)
