Arpeggione - Chamber music in the hr-Sendesaal - 2for1-Tickets
Schubert's "Arpeggione" Sonata is one of the best-known chamber works by the Viennese early Romantic composer. In its sonorous sound world, it is a decidedly virtuoso piece, which can be experienced in this concert with two ingeniously gripping chamber music works from the youth of the great opera dramatist Richard Strauss. The 19-year-old's Piano Quartet in C minor is regarded as the high point of his exploration of Brahms. Conquering and youthfully effervescent in character, according to a contemporary observer, Strauss already showed his own style in it. The 23-year-old also achieved a stroke of genius with his only violin sonata. It became "the" German violin sonata of the fin de siècle, a sparklingly witty piece whose virtuosity and colorfulness broke all the boundaries that a Brahms had set for himself in his violin sonatas.
