Kellertheater Frankfurt

The Kellertheater has been presenting theater in all its forms for over 30 years - from classics to contemporary post-dramatic plays to children's theater. Sometimes profound, sometimes grueling, sometimes entertaining. Or all of the above. But always with the ambition of an ambitious "off-stage" of independent theater and always with an irrepressible desire for (show) play.

The Emperor of China has been inconsolable since the death of his wife years ago. He sits depressed on his throne day after day and can't be cheered up by anything. The friends Wei-Lin and Lisan come up with the idea that the song of a nightingale from the palace park might cheer him up. the castle park could cheer him up. They succeed - but the emperor wants the nightingale all to himself and has it locked in a cage. In captivity, however, the nightingale becomes very ill and sad, so that it can no longer sing for the emperor. Lisan and her friend Wei-Lin secretly free the nightingale and the king sinks back into his sadness. However, he is given a mechanical nightingale, which his master of ceremonies is delighted with. This only makes the emperor happy for a short time, as he longs for the song of the real nightingale. He has to learn that he can only enjoy its song if he allows it freedom. But will the nightingale return to sing for the emperor?

A fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen in a text version by Ute Schimmler. Recommended for children aged 6 and over.
