Die Dramatische Bühne

This summer, the Dramatische Bühne is once again presenting plays from over 30 years of the open-air festival. The vision is to revive the zany, audacious theatrical dream that has been envisioned since Shakespeare’s time: Stories full of both silliness and profundity, rich in costumes, sets, and (cheesy) theatrical magic—embodying both the splendor and the shabbiness of comedy and traveling theater—lovably old-fashioned, clichéd, and wonderful all at once.

In “Pirates of the Caribbean,” Captain Jack Sparrow and his crew are searching for the fountain of immortality. Together with Glass-Eyed John, Parrot Pete, Wooden-Leg Henry, and Hook-Hand Erik, he sails across the seven seas, battles the golden sea serpent and his latest rum-fueled binge, sells his soul to the Flying Dutchman, and encounters Poseidon, the god of the seven seas. Along the way, Jack Sparrow devours everything in his path—from rum to respectable ladies—and duels, swears, and brawls until the skin cracks.

The open-air venue is located in the northern part of the park, near the Orthodox church, right next to the memorial obelisk of the Rothschild Palace. Access is via Sebastian-Rinz-Straße coming from Miquelallee or via August-Siebert-Straße from the direction of downtown. Performances take place in almost any weather. Friendly dogs are welcome. The bar offers a selection of snacks and drinks—cash only.
