At the center of Sakîna Teyna Septet's music are the numerous Kurdish makams. Specific melodies and structures are used to create different moods and emotions, which are also brought to the fore by the diverse backgrounds of the musicians. The use of microtonal systems is an invitation to discover new worlds of sound that are combined with elements of classical music and contemporary jazz. The result is a synthesis of traditional Kurdish music, interpreted by Sakina in the three Kurdish dialects Kurmanji, Zazaki and Sorani. The skillfully played fretless guitar by Mahan Mirarab, as well as the instruments cello, viola, violin, double bass and percussion create a force field, which the harmonic makams break up, reinterpret and deepen with feelings, themes and stories through specific combinations of tones and melodies. Delicate and gentle as well as dynamic and powerful, an interplay of timbres and moods.
