Powerlessness has become the basic political feeling of our time. A rhetoric of hatred and contempt for humanity has hijacked the political discourse. Our coexistence is once again characterized by more violence. It is no wonder that more and more people are abandoning their belief in political action and retreating into the private sphere. Yet we know very well that active resistance and collective action are what is needed right now. But how can we succeed in finding a political stance that can counter the spreading climate of hatred? In his new book, Daniel Schreiber shows a radical way - a return to the idea of love as a political force. At a time when powerlessness, hate rhetoric and increasing violence dominate the discourse, he uses political, philosophical and socio-historical examples to illustrate how ideas of love have triggered major social changes.
