The Kremlin, Moscow, 1942, a top secret meeting between Winston Churchill and Josef Stalin: one a wealthy aristocrat of old English nobility, the other a Georgian peasant, determined to smash capitalism and class society. Can Churchill and Stalin find common ground despite their differences? While diplomats desperately try to get the growing chaos under control, two interpreters are caught in the middle of the storm.
The continental premiere of Howard Brenton's gripping drama imagines the fictional clash of two unpredictable political titans as world history hangs in the balance. The play offers highly topical insights into trust, truth and the challenging art of compromise. Brenton focuses on the power of language - its ability to reveal and conceal - and the complexity of human communication.
