A colorful adventure story with music about helpfulness, courage and friendship. Dr. John Dolittle lives with his sister Sarah in a small town in England. He is actually just an ordinary doctor - but with a great love of animals. In fact, he already has an incredible number of animals living with him, including a pig, a dog, a duck, an owl, a hedgehog and many, many others. But when the parrot lady Polynesia teaches him the language of animals and a crocodile suddenly appears on the doorstep, it becomes too much for Sarah: she moves out!

But John becomes famous in the animal kingdom - so famous that the animals ask him for help as a doctor: a serious disease has broken out among the animals in Africa and only he can help. Together with his closest animal friends, he sets off on his journey...
But the sea voyage turns out to be very different from what he expected, and both the stay in Africa and the return journey have a few surprises in store for Dr. Dolittle and his friends...
