"With the van through Europe - A journey to the soul of our continent" is an event in the multivision series Fernsichten by and with the renowned photographer Peter Gebhard (GEO, Stern, National Geographic). With his faithful van "Erwin" and assistant Tobi, he was once again on the road on an extraordinary tour of Europe: 215,000 kilometers full of amazement, encounters and adventures from Lisbon to Lapland.

They collected shells with divers on Galicia's coast, crossed a northern Spanish desert, found a rusty van brother in the Pyrenees and met a woman from the Allgäu in Liguria who became the princess of a village. In the Swiss Alps, they lived with a young farming family, chugged through Germany to the Baltic States and met people everywhere who told their stories - from shipyard workers in Gdansk to German emigrants in Estonia. Of course, "Erwin" also went on strike from time to time - clutch cable torn, starter motor broken, gearbox blocked - but it was precisely these breakdowns that led to new adventures. The journey ended abruptly before St. Petersburg, but it continued: through Finland's forests to the Arctic Ocean, where Gebhard met up with old Sami acquaintances after 25 years. At the end, flaming auroras stood over the northern tip of Europe - a magical conclusion to a journey full of heart, humor and a spirit of discovery.
