With all the harshness his father deems necessary and which he himself has experienced, he raises his son to become the heir to the farm. But he doesn't want to become a farmer and wants to get away from the Westerwald, out of the world of narrowness and mendacity. In his latest book "Verrücktes Blut - Oder: Wie ich wurde, der ich bin", Joe Bausch talks for the first time about the time in which he had to experience the deepest humiliation, violence and abuse. A farm in the barren Westerwald in the early 1950s. The horrors and deprivations of the war are still in people's bones. In any case, the climate in this area has always been harsh. The parents have no time for friendly attention, no time for tender affection. Josef Hermann, who will later be called Joe, is a bright child. A child who can't sit still, learns to read before he starts school with the newspapers in the outhouse and has to help out in the family business from an early age. He is only allowed to go to grammar school because he continues to work until he drops. Beatings are the order of the day - and the 13-year-old foster son his parents have taken in abuses the child's trust.

Joe Bausch talks for the first time about growing up as a farmer's son in the post-war period and how the sometimes traumatic experiences of his childhood and youth shaped him.
