Internationales Theater Frankfurt

Music is a universal language. This concert takes place as part of the 25th Turkish Film Festival and proves this in an unprecedented way. The virtuoso oud player Bülent Okan from Izmir meets the Turkish piano virtuoso Utku Asan from Frankfurt. Oriental sounds blend with Western classical music and jazzy improvisations to create a fascinating new musical experience. The concert explores the possibilities of both instruments to open up previously unheard sound spaces.

Utku Asan's musical development moves between Istanbul and Frankfurt, between classical music and jazz. The young pianist has already won prizes at international piano competitions in Bursa, Turkey and at ''Musical Fireworks'' in Baden-Württemberg. Bülent Okan is not only a virtuoso player of the Arabic lute oud, he also teaches it. Due to its flexibility, the oud became the best-known Arabic musical instrument in the 20th century through its use in European jazz.
