Organist Tuomas Pyrhönen from Joensuu in Finland plays on the cathedral organ with its 116 stops and approx. 9000 pipes, making it the largest organ system in Hesse. Tuomas Pyrhönen, Doctor of Music, is one of the most active Finnish concert organists today. Tuomas Pyrhönen loves contemporary music. He has also transcribed piano and orchestral works for organ. In addition, he regularly plays basic works and rarely heard organ gems, regardless of period or style, and also enjoys improvising. Pyrhönen has recorded four CDs, including a CD of organ works by Peteris Vasks recorded in Riga Cathedral. He has also recorded countless times for the Finnish radio station Yle.
Tuomas Pyrhönen has been working as a church musician in the Joensuu parish since February 2002. In this capacity, he has invited many Finnish and foreign organists to give concerts in Joensuu church and visited their places of origin with concerts. He has also worked as an organ teacher and music critic. His favorite pastimes are reading classical literature, watching movies, travelling and languages.
