Fragmented Shelter is an interdisciplinary performance inspired by motifs from Franz Kafka's story "The Burrow". The focus is on the incessant effort to protect oneself from imaginary enemies in a self-created dwelling - a struggle between security and fear, between rational considerations and a panicked loss of reality. In an intense space of text, live sound and video, existential questions of our integrity and the need for protection, security and the isolation that comes with it are negotiated.

We live in times of permanent crisis. The world is crumbling everywhere. Pandemics, war, climate change, endangered democracies and the fear of social division increase the feeling of emerging overwhelm and make us feel unbearably powerless. The need for retreat, self-protection and security is growing. However, we are becoming increasingly aware that there can be no absolute protection and no total security. The illusion that we can save ourselves by taking excessive safety precautions leads to blindness towards our own fragility.
