"Cemîl Qoçgîrî is a tenbûr virtuoso, composer and keeper of the Kurdish-Anatolian musical tradition. Growing up in a family from the Qoçgîrî region near Sivas, he was influenced early on by the melodies and spiritual depth of Mesopotamian culture. The tenbûr becomes a voice in his playing - a bridge between past and present, Orient and Occident. Traditional tunes combine with contemporary forms of expression to create a multi-layered world of sound. His compositions tell of cultural heritage, memory and exile as well as hope and unity.
