Immerwahr - Portrait-Theater at the Kulturhaus Frankfurt - 2for1-Tickets
Immerwahr by Sabine Friedrich is an unusual and dense portrait play, performed by the Noctenytor ensemble, about a rarely mentioned and at the same time important figure in German history. Clara Immerwahr's concerns and scruples about (armaments) industrial research and its use for large-scale extermination purposes are still relevant today...

In order to be able to work on her book about this impressive historical figure in peace, Carla retreats to the house of her deceased parents. The balancing act between job and career on the one hand, relationship and family on the other; the social restrictions of being a woman, which then as now make the call for equal rights loud... The more Carla delves into the life of her protagonist Clara Immerwahr 100 years ago, the clearer the topicality and explosiveness of her life story becomes.

Despite gaining her doctorate, Clara Immerwahr only managed to get a job as an unpaid laboratory assistant in 1901 at the age of 30. Her marriage to the chemist Dr. Fritz Haber initially promised scientific prospects, but family obligations increasingly pushed her own work into the background and her health suffered. With the beginning of the First World War, the marital conflict intensifies: Haber's ammonia synthesis is used for the development of combat gas, which Clara strictly rejects for moral reasons.

Ten days after the first German use of poison gas, Clara shoots herself with her husband's service weapon on May 1, 1915 - while he celebrates his promotion to captain of the imperial infantry. In 1918, his method was awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry. In the 1920s, he worked on the development of Zyklon B, which was later used in the concentration camps...
