With the biennial festival cresc... Biennale für aktuelle Musik Frankfurt Rhein Main, outstanding cultural institutions in the region join forces: the Ensemble Modern with the International Ensemble Modern Academy and the hr-Sinfonieorchester with the hr-Bigband. The motto of this year's festival is "Swarms". They fascinate with their elegance and synchronicity and are not created by central control, but by local impulses that condense into complex patterns. The music is the resonance chamber of the swarm. It lives from collective organization and individual voice at the same time. When sounds interweave to form dense surfaces or rhythmic structures pulsate like living organisms, the music itself appears as a superorganism. At the same time, we rave about a work, an ensemble, a sound.

The monumental choral and orchestral work "The Desert Music" by Steve Reich is more than just minimal music - it is a sonic metaphor for the scientific concept of "swarm behavior". Rhythmic and melodic phrases interweave to form a structure that transcends its individual parts. Repetitive patterns change minimally and continuously shift the soundscape. Similar to a flock of birds, an organic whole emerges from individual voices. The program is complemented by a new orchestral work by Lithuanian composer Juste Janulyte, known for her floating, monochrome sound processes. A new work that will be premiered as part of the "Forum N" concert series - conducted by Brad Lubman
