The second major project of the new hr composer in residence, Darcy James Argue, is a collaboration with exceptional pianist Aaron Diehl. His style spans all decades of jazz and inspires with its elegance, yet is completely free of conservatism. His award-winning albums are topping the jazz charts and he is a regular guest at the biggest concert halls. The Canadian Argue is one of the leading composers of the younger jazz generation.

Aaron Diehl elegantly straddles the musical boundary between classical music and jazz. He released his debut album a year before graduating from Juilliard. Since then, he has won numerous prizes as a pianist and made a name for himself as a composer. In recent years, he has not only played at the major jazz festivals but also in the world's most prestigious concert halls. He won the 2020 Down Beat Critics Poll in the Piano/Rising Star category. In 2023 he was Artistic Director of 92NY's Jazz in July Festival. He accompanied Grammy winner Cécile McLorin Salvant on several of her albums, recorded an album with Gregory Hutchinson and toured with numerous contemporary stars such as Warren Wolf, Wycliffe Gordon and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. The specialist press praises his subtle, technically mature style and attests to his lyrical, orchestral approach to his instrument.
