The Goldmund Quartet and its chamber music partner Raphaela Gromes present a Schubertiade of a special kind: two pinnacle works of chamber music, juxtaposed in a single concert! Soaring drama and heavenly lengths - these are the two poles between which the D minor String Quartet and the String Quintet by Franz Schubert move. The opening movement of the quartet shapes the character of the entire work with a wildly triumphant gesture, which even erupts again and again in the slow movement, the eponymous variations on Schubert's song "Death and the Maiden".

The quintet is completely different: it begins with a sound surface from which "heavenly themes" gradually crystallize. Enchanting beauty of sound that leads us first to paradise and then to the edge of the abyss in the slow movement. All people to whom music, chamber music even, means something, bow down in happy admiration - or they rave about it ... No one can completely unravel the tonal mystery of this work with words, nor can they put it into words." (Joachim Kaiser)
