Little Cedric Errol lives with his mother in New York. His friends include shoeshine boys and the woman from the fruit stand. One day, a gentleman from England appears and informs him that his English grandfather, the Earl of Dorincourt, wants to raise him in England. Cedric is the last remaining successor to the title of earl. Together with his mother, Cedric moves to England and lives with his grandfather in the castle; his mother, however, is not allowed to enter the estate - the old earl has an incredible aversion to Americans and has a reputation for being a hard-hearted and cruel person.
Cedric knows nothing of this. He loves his new grandfather. With his kind and lovable nature, he even manages to get the old man to look after the poor and needy in his county and do things that none of his employees would otherwise have thought possible. Then a swindler appears who is trying to appoint her own son as the earl's heir... Will Cedric be allowed to stay with his grandfather? And who is this mysterious swindler anyway? Cedric's friends from America can help and solve the mystery!
