As the 60s turned into the 70s, there was a musical turning point. American blues had been gaining popularity with teenagers on both sides of the Atlantic for so long that the blues offshoot called rock'n'roll had to expand or die. It didn't die, but expanded in all possible directions! And it was at this turning point between blues-based rock and all the other rock sub-genres in the world that something happened to the blues. The format was experimented with, expanded and made almost unrecognizable. At the same time, the roots of the original, "real" blues were never lost. Peter Green left Fleetwood Mac in 1970 with the song "Green Manalishi", Johnny Winter stretched his musical legs, ZZ Top bought Marshall hardstacks and shot from the hip, and last but not least the legend himself, Muddy Waters, stretched the boundaries of what was "legal" with the album "Electric Mud". And let's not forget Hendrix, Free, Canned Heat and the rest of the gang from the Woodstock era. The result was a highly electrifying musical revolution in which, for example, the newly born genre of hard rock went hand in hand with traditional Delta blues.
