Else lives with her husband Willy and their two daughters in Frankfurt and has developed from a shy war child into the perfect wife and mother. While Willy spends a lot of time on business trips and at the local tennis club, Else begins her own adventure: she sees an advertisement in the newspaper and decides to become a cab driver - nobody is allowed to know about it. During her nightly journeys, she meets all kinds of people and changes as a result.

One day she finds out that Willy is cheating on her. He is not alone in this; her friend Marta's husband is also having affairs. The two women find their own ways of dealing with the betrayal - at a time when men dominate. But it is only decades later, when Willy seems to have found out about Else's cab past, that she finally breaks free: She plunders her bank account and travels to France with her granddaughter Emma. On the trip, Else finally feels seen: by Emma and the rest of the world.

The first novel by artist couple Jasna Fritzi Bauer and Katharina Zorn is based on the story of Zorn's grandmother and tells an extraordinary story of emancipation that spans from the turbulent sixties to the present day. Jasna Fritzi Bauer, known for her work as an actress and author, and Katharina Zorn, a talented director and writer, combine personal experiences with social issues in their work and create a gripping tale of self-determination and change.
