Germany in the year 2057: common sense has, quite literally, triumphed. Genetic research, early medical diagnosis and strict hygiene laws prevent even the outbreak of colds. Mia Holl, a young biologist, was until recently a strong advocate of a system that rigidly protects citizens from physical suffering. But since her brother Moritz was convicted of murdering a woman with the help of a DNA test and killed himself in prison, Mia has been thrown off course. She has doubts about Moritz's guilt, neglects herself, no longer submits her dietary reports and even smokes a cigarette. The justice system sets its sights on her, because Mia's behavior endangers the common good. Mia becomes the pawn in a show trial that keeps the nation on tenterhooks.
